Press Release

There’s no denying that the warm summer evenings are well behind us now. It is time for sweaters and raincoats, and hot drinks in front of the woodstove. Adding some good music makes us all feel extra warm inside. Island Voices Chamber Choir is presenting "A Winter’s Night Journey", a concert of 17 highly varied songs, to inspire us all right through whatever winter weather comes our way.

Island Voices is an acapella chamber choir composed of 24 of the area’s best musicians, who have been pleasing audiences since 1997. The choir will sing selections from 8 countries in at least 6 languages, all expressing the joy, adventure and passion present in many of our journeys through life. As always, their program has something for everyone and will offer a wide variety of styles including rousing spirituals, jazz, a few sacred selections, folk songs, and a even a couple of songs about snow.

The concert’s music will vary from the sacred such as Kyrie and Gloria by Rheinberger (1839-1901) which is scored for two 4-part choirs giving a rich sound reminiscent of big European stone cathedrals; to the very lively and joyful Espiritu de Dios which is a Cuban piece conveying beautifully the country’s passion for melodies and rhythms, quite unmatched elsewhere in the world. Hosanna is jumpy and infectious in rhythm and the rest will be a surprise!

You won’t regret leaving your cozy home for this concert - it will provide inspiration to last you through your journey this winter!
